Supporting a Spouse with PTSD — Lessons from a Police Wife &
Family Therapist
If your law enforcement or first responder family feels the strain
of trauma, you’re not alone. Learn real tools to rebuild
connection, calm, and hope from a couple who’s lived it.
Episode Summary
In this episode, Cyndi Doyle sits down with Kim Williamson,
founder of the First Responder Family Wellness Center, to talk
about what it really takes to build resilience inside first
responder families. Kim shares her deeply personal story of
navigating her husband’s post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI), the
toll it took on their marriage, and how her family learned to heal
and grow stronger together.
She discusses the “Family Stress Team” model she developed, the
stoplight system they use at home to manage emotions, and why
resilience must be practiced daily, not just when crisis hits. Kim
also explains how her own healing inspired her to create The
Resilience Academy — a space for first responder spouses to
connect, learn, and support each other.
Hosted by Cyndi Doyle, founder of Code4Couples®, licensed professional counselor, speaker, and author of Hold the Line. Cyndi helps law enforcement couples strengthen relationships and protect their connection against the unique challenges of first responder life.
